Day 1 with THE CHICKS!

Today we had some very exciting news... WE HAVE  CHICKS. They are eggs at the moment but are due on Wednesday. A big thank you to living eggs who have given us these wonderful eggs. Henderson class is very excited to see what happens. We discussed all the parts of a Incubator and a Brooder. The incubator keep the eggs and chick warm when they are hatching or sleeping. Once two eggs have hatched you gently put them into the brooder which should be ready for them. You need to clean the brooder everyday and top up the water in the incubator. We have groups for that. We talked about the very big responsibility we have. That's what I like to call and egg-sponsiblity! The eggs look awesome and one has a crack. That means it is pipping. In the brooder there is a 60waats light bulb so that it can keep the chicks warm. It has wood shavings under need so they have a place to sleep. We give them food in the morning and before we leave. We are very excited for this opportunity! Take a look a picture!

Raksha Bhandan

Today I am telling you about a special Indian celebration for the sister and brother. This is called Raksha Bhandan. It is a widely celebrated Indian Festival. It is a bracelet type thing that the sister/cousin sister ties around the brother hand. This is made from a thread. As I grew up I tied this on my brother. We call it special thread of love. This is very soft but very beautiful. The Rakhi has designs which can be made from different things such as beads and diamonds. When the sister ties the Rakhi on the brother the brother gives the sister a gift and promises to protect her no matter. If the sister wants to then she can give him a gift. At the end of the day Raksha Bhandan is a very nice celebration. My dad has so many sisters so he ends up with like an arm full of Rakhis.  Raksha means defence or protect and Bhandan is when something is tied. Raksha Bhandan is one of my favorite times in the year. It is a very good time to get along with people you have met for a while and also a time for you to have fun. The process of Raksha Bhandan is simple. In an Indian Dish which we call Thali you lite a camphor in a diya and put in on the thali. Also on the thali there should be a little bit of rice and cendoor (which is this red powder which you then put water into it which makes it able to be touched and put on to the forehead). Another thing is Indian sweets. The main thing that needs to be on there is the Rakhi. First while the fire is lit you need to take the plate and circle it around the brothers face. Then you need to apply the cendoor, quickly get some rice and apply to the cendoor on the forehead. After that you put the thali down and get the rakhi, you tie it around the hand and put sweets in their mouth. After that you touch their feet which is for a blessing and hug them. Finally we get the presents.

Camp 2017!

As some of you know ( if you read my other post) some students went to camp! We had a blast and just wanted to say thank you to everyone who helped! Today I will share with you my time while I was sailing. I was sailing with , Kaff ( instructor) , Dani, Wally, Filipe, Villiami and Me.

Putting on wet suit shorts wasn't a problem but it was quite hard. My group was going sailing. Obviously before we clambered into the small boat, we discussed the different parts and what they do, also how to set a boat up. I enjoyed learning about the boom because it has a cool name and has a cool job. The boom helps and supports the sail so that it can stay strong. You have to be careful with it because it can hit you in the head and go BOOM! That's where the name comes from! We carefully took the boat into the wavy water and released it. We put the trailer on the sand and hoped inside of the yellow boat. It was amazing. First of all we had Filipe handling the steering wheel and Wally handling the sail. We learnt an old saying from Kaff it was ' a flappy tail is never a happy tail' , which meant that the tail tails on a sail should not be flappy because it means your sail isn't tight enough! Then I took over from Filipe actually it was hard. We all took turns until the turn.... We went around the Marine Boi ( Yellow pole and yellow ball). Everyone got a turn and we were back in no time. When we were coming out the water began to get a little wavy and I hit my leg. But it didn't hurt! It was just a swollen! It was a really fun time in the boat! Thanks Kaff!

Tomorrow (26/7/17) some of the Hay Park School seniors will be going to Camp in Longbay for 3 days! I have been there before but I am still as excited as everyone else is!  This is a presentation I made about Sir Peter Blake. It has some very interesting information you might have not known. Farewell Mr Hopkins!

Today was a sad day for us because it was Mr Hopkins' last day at Hay Park School. My class made some really beautiful cards to give to him and he had a surprise. Mr Hopkins is a humorous man who loves teaching and is very creative. Mr Hopkins you are a problem-solver with our chromebooks. If it weren't for you we wouldn't have been doing presentation or even cybersmart! I will all remember you by three things. 1: The coolest cybersmart teacher in the whole entire world!
2:  The computer man (which is how I knew you when I was young, but now I know you as the coolest person with devices on earth!)
and the last one is....

3: DOCTOR WHO!

Mr Hopkins thank you for the hard work and effort you put into everything for Hay Park School. We really appreciate all of it. You are a person with some great talent and I will always remember you. You taught us in different way to make it really fun and enjoyable for all of us.  Sadly, we couldn't have you teach us on the last day you were here. Anyways, good luck for your new job and congratulations! Hay Park School is really proud of you and happy for you. We will enjoy seeing you leave (not because we want you to leave) because you will be doing something higher and better than this job! Well done! Hay Park School wishes you a bright future and a cyber-tastic day , everyday!

Animation With Miss Fortes

Today all the seniors with with Miss Fortes because our teachers needed to finish of a lot of their work. We were all in the hall. Miss Fortes was telling us about the Animal DLO we were going to do. I really wanted to learn how to animate a google slides just like Miss Fortes did with Mr Winter. I asked her if we could do it and she said "YES!". I was really excited. She taught the whole senior syndicate how to do it. Here is a presentation animated by me. Thank you to Miss Fortes for teaching us this amazing skill which I will use in my life. Enjoy !

Cybersmart : Digital Footprint, Google Images

Today (Wednesday 21 June) Mr Hopkins came in and we did some stalking. It was really fun. We searched each other up and checked how many of the people in class we could find. I found everyone in the class and because I had some space I added some teachers. I found a photo of myself and I wasn't surprised because I posted that on my blog. Some people in the class found photos of them they didn't know was online! This lesson was fun and was exciting to see. I found a picture of my brother. Here is the drawing where we did the work.
